Privacy Policy

Information stored on your device

BeerShelf may store:

• Beer and cider names, producers, styles, ABV, country, package, volume, and barcode.
• Your ratings, tasting notes, flavour tags, favourites, wishlist, dates, and occasions.
• Photos you take or choose and derived transparent product cut-outs.
• Optional venue, city, country, and precise coordinates for where a drink was added or tried.
• Search history and app preferences.

This personal journal data is stored in BeerShelf’s local app container. BeerShelf has no user account and does not upload your ratings, notes, photos, or saved location to a developer profile.

Camera, photos, and on-device recognition

Camera and photo-library access are optional and used only when you choose to photograph or select a drink image. Apple Vision processes label text and foreground cut-outs on your device. Extra detail photos are discarded after facts are extracted unless you separately choose to save a photo.

You can change camera, photo, and location permissions in iOS Settings. Revoking access prevents future use but does not automatically remove information already saved in BeerShelf.

Online catalogue searches and contributions

When you search the catalogue, BeerShelf sends the search words to the developer’s Supabase catalogue service. When you scan a barcode, it may send the barcode to that service and, if needed, to Open Food Facts to retrieve public product information.

After you save a drink, BeerShelf may submit non-personal reference facts—such as drink name, category, producer, style, ABV, country, barcode, package, and volume—to a private review queue used to improve the shared catalogue. A random identifier stored on your device accompanies these submissions to support abuse prevention and deduplication. The submission does not contain your name, rating, tasting notes, photos, venue, coordinates, or occasion.

Supabase and Open Food Facts process network requests under their respective privacy practices. As with ordinary internet traffic, they may receive technical information such as your IP address and request time.

Location and maps

If you allow it, BeerShelf requests your location after you begin adding a drink so it can remember where that entry was made. Coordinates and the resolved place details are stored with your local journal. They are displayed through Apple Maps but are not included in catalogue contributions. Apple’s handling is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Tracking, advertising, and sale

BeerShelf has no advertising, analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking. The developer does not sell your personal information.

Sharing, storage, and deletion

BeerShelf does not share your personal journal unless you initiate a system share action. The recipient’s practices apply after content leaves the app.

Delete a drink to remove it and its owned journal records and photos from BeerShelf. Delete the app to remove all local BeerShelf data, subject to device backups managed in your Apple settings. Public catalogue facts already submitted for review are not personal journal records and may remain in the shared reference catalogue.

Security, children, and changes

BeerShelf relies on Apple’s app sandbox and encrypted HTTPS for network requests. No method of storage or transmission is guaranteed completely secure.

BeerShelf is intended for adults of legal drinking age in their location and is not directed to children. This policy may change as the app’s features or providers change; the effective date will be updated when a revision is published.
