Runna alternatives worth trying in 2026
Runna is very good at race plans, and most people who use it like it. The ones who leave usually say one of three things: it costs too much, the plan got too hard, or they wanted more than a schedule. Here's where to go for each.
I make Motivator, so read its entry with that in mind. Every other app is described from its own App Store listing. Ratings are from the US App Store on 20 October 2026 and will have moved since.
Why runners look for an alternative
Runna has a 4.85 rating from over 35,000 US ratings, so most people like it. The complaints that do come up in its reviews are consistent: the subscription price, plans that ramp up faster than people can handle, limited room to adjust a plan, and occasional sync problems. If one of those is why you're here, the list below is ordered around them.
The alternatives
Coopah
Best for: adaptive plans with a human coach behind them.
App Store: 4.86 from 94 ratings. View on the App Store
Adaptive plans that adjust to your fitness and life, a Race Day Confidence Score for how ready you are, and access to human coaches. Coopah offers a money-back promise if you don't hit your goal, according to its listing.
Watch out for: a smaller community than Runna, and it's also a paid subscription.
NXT RUN
Best for: race plans that move with you and sync to your watch.
App Store: 4.57 from 37 ratings. View on the App Store
Plans for distances from 800 m to the marathon, rebuilt weekly from how sessions actually went. Workouts sync to Garmin, Apple Watch and COROS, and you can make any run easier or harder with one tap.
Watch out for: few reviews so far.
Ruut
Best for: a simpler personalised plan.
App Store: 4.5 from 628 ratings. View on the App Store
A short quiz about your goals and schedule, then a plan where each session has a stated purpose. Good for people returning after a break.
Watch out for: less depth for advanced runners than Runna.
Nike Run Club
Best for: a free plan.
App Store: 4.77 from 419,784 ratings. View on the App Store
Nike’s training plans and guided runs cost nothing. If price is the reason you're leaving Runna, start here.
Watch out for: the plans adapt less, and guided runs are fixed recordings.
Motivator: AI Running Coach
Best for: runners who need someone in their ear, not just a schedule.
App Store: new in 2026, no US ratings yet. View on the App Store
Motivator builds a plan around a race date or a target distance, lets you choose your running days, and keeps ordinary runs easy unless you opt into faster sessions. The difference is during the run: one of seven coaches reacts to your splits, pace changes and hard patches. Free to download. Tracking, plans, history, Apple Health and coaching in an on-device voice stay free, with three runs in the coaches’ own voices. Premium (USD 4.99 a week, 14.99 a month or 99.99 a year) adds the coaches’ own voices on every run.
Watch out for: iPhone only with no Apple Watch app, and less race-specific depth than Runna for advanced marathon training.
None to Run
Best for: true beginners who found Runna too hard.
App Store: 4.82 from 5,166 ratings. View on the App Store
Gentle plans from walking to your first 5K and 10K, written for people who are not yet runners.
Watch out for: not built for race performance.
